If you are facing frequent troubles with your existing toilet, then replacement is probably the best decision you can take. An entire new toilet will not only be equipped with new features but also solve numerous existing issues as well. Now, you have the golden chance to substitute the old toilet with a water-saving model.

Before installing the new toilet you have to remove the existing one. This cheat sheet may help you to perform the removal procedure all by yourself in the right way. So, let’s go through this.

Supplies requirement

Before we start with the steps, it is necessary to know the requirement of the toilet plumbing fittings in London to proceed with the work safely and perfectly:
  • Putty knife
  • Rubber gloves
  • Utility knife
  • Sponge
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Tongue-and-groove pliers
  • Bucket

Step-I: Cut off the water supply to the toilet bowl

Cut off the water supply by locating and turning off the water valve underneath the toilet tank. It may be also mounted behind your toilet on the wall. While you are about to replace it, it’s better for you to replace it completely.
If you are going to change the valve as well, you have to cut down the water supply of the entire house by switching off the main water valve.

Step-II: Remove and dry out the toilet bowl and tank

Dry out the water from the toilet tank and the bowl by flushing it till the last drop. Then make use of a bucket and a large sponge to ensure the dryness of the toilet bowl. Make sure that you have put on the gloves while using the sponge for wringing out the excess water from the toilet bowl.

Step-III: Detach the connection between the tank and the bowl

Water supply tube must be detached from your toilet tank with the help of a tongue-and-groove plier. It will help you to unscrew the mounting nuts present there on the water inlet valve’s tailpiece situated on the tank’s left-bottom side.

Then the covers will be removed by a flathead screwdriver. Pliers can be your companion too for removing the washers and nuts of the toilet floor bolts also known as flange bolts.

Step-IV: Separate the bowl from the tank

Bowl must be disconnected from the tank by removing all the necessary nuts which had been fastened it to its bowl. Screwdriver is necessary for holding the slotted heads of your bolts firmly and turns them out. Then slowly pull out the tank to make it separate from the bowl.

Step-V: Cut down the caulk layer

Caulk layer must be cut down surrounding the bowl base with the help of a utility knife. Make sure that the floor doesn’t get damaged. Then you have to wiggle the bowl a little bit for breaking the bond among it and the floor. Carefully lift it straight or flange it off the floor for its complete removal from the floor.

Step-VI: Remove the wax for complete removal

After removing the old caulk from the floor, you have to put out the wax surrounding its flange. Also, the plastic fitting at the top of the drain pipe of the toilet will be removed too. Now the space is completely ready for installing a new toilet.

As the new toilet is different, the varied footprint can make the space looks a bit awkward. So, prior to performing the installation, you are advised to clean the discolouration and residue of the old toilet. If you can’t perform this on your own, then you have to hire the services of toilet plumbing in London. It will give your toiler an all-new look at all.
